Wuthering Heights is a shepherd’s hut raised up from the quiet lane neighbouring the Gairloch golf course. You climb the steps to the private decking from where there is a fantastic view across the course to dunes and the sea. A
few more steps from the decking take you up into Wuthering Heights. You are immediately impressed with both the use and size of space. Standing in the ergonomic kitchen/dining/living area there is a raised double bed to your right and a shower room to the left. The owner has finished it with character and charm, making it a very comfortable bijoux space.
Wuthering Heights makes a perfect bolthole and base to explore this stunning part of Scotland. Gairloch is a lovely village, which is surprisingly large and spread out along the coast. There are many cafés and restaurants to enjoy, as well as pubs to sample. If you wanted to avoid cooking, there are different options for every night of your short break, all within walking distance. From Gairloch there are so many places to explore, an enormous choice of walking routes to really help you get to know the area. Outstanding coastal paths taking in sandy beaches nearby to Red Point in the south, and to Guinard Bay in the north.
A little inland, and close by are the Fairy Lochs near Badachro, which is also a designated war grave with the remains of a 1945 military crash still visible. Loch Maree between Gairloch and Kinlochewe which borders the UK’s first National Nature Reserve, Beinn Eighe and Loch Maree Islands National Nature Reserve. Established in 1951, it is known as the gateway to Wester Ross and has ancient Caledonian pinewoods as well as special upland habitats. You will see red deer, golden eagles and sea eagles, as well as otters and pine martens, on your walks in the Wester Ross area. And near to the coast, especially around Gairloch and nearby Poolewe you can also see dolphins, porpoises, seals and whales, a special place for wildlife lovers. As well as being made popular for holidaying by the Victorians, there is Pictish history and World War history all around, including the sites specifically for the protection of Russian Convoys in WWII. You will see wartime buildings, gun emplacements and anti-aircraft batteries particularly in the Poolewe area. Beach 500 yards. Shop 500 yards, pub 400 yards. and restaurant 500 yards.
