Think big! With nine impressive en-suite bedrooms, sleeping 20 people in total, Whitton Lodge is a superb 400 year old, stone-built house, which was once part of the famous Hardwick Estate.
Each of the nine bedrooms have been tastefully decorated, and designed to offer flexibility, with the large rooms sleeping between two and four. There are three rooms situated in an annexe in the courtyard area, with direct access to the beautiful garden. The other six rooms are accessed by two staircases within the main house.
Whitton Lodge’s living space is spacious and contemporary, with the added comfort of a wood burner for those cosy winter evenings. The property boasts a living room with enough seating for your whole party, and two kitchens, which are well-equipped and provide you with everything you’ll need to cater for a larger party. A light dining room is located in the very heart of the house, with probably one of the largest dining tables you have ever seen, fantastic for a gathering of family and friends.
Whitton Lodge comes complete with a lovely lawned area with mature flower beds, and a large courtyard with outdoor seating and BBQ, ideal for a spot of al fresco dining, as well as a private hot tub.
If location is what you’re looking for then look no further! A gentle stroll takes you to the famous Hardwick Hall, built in the 1590s by ’Bess of Hardwick’, the second most powerful woman in England, after Queen Elizabeth I. The Hall, and even its original tapestries and textiles, have survived unaltered for four centuries, and is now opened to the public by the National Trust. Near the estate’s original water mill, still in operation and open to visitors, is the Hardwick Inn, also built in the 16th century.
A little further away are the delights of the Peak District, including Chatsworth House and the town of Matlock, as well as some stunning countryside. Just a few miles away you will discover the historic market town of Chesterfield which acts as the gateway to the Peak District. Chesterfield is famous for its 14th century church with a crooked spire twisting from the centre. Also popular with visitors is the semi-rural 17th-century mansion of Bolsover Castle, set high on a wooded hilltop looking west towards the heights of the wonderful Peak District.
In nearby Nottinghamshire, visit Nottingham’s Castle or Sherwood Forest to go on a Robin Hood hunt! Close by is Teversal, a small village in Nottinghamshire which is surrounded by the Teversal Trail Visitors Centre, offering great access to the Teversal and Pleasley trails network, perfect for enjoying a variety of walks and cycle routes.
Whitton Lodge really does have the most fabulous location to enjoy with family and friends, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed. Shop and restaurant 400 yards, pub 150 yards.
