North Yorkshire is a haven for walkers and cyclists, and many walks can be accessed from your doorstep, including the Cleveland Way, a riverside walk along the River Esk and a lovely coastal walk along the Cinder Track between Whitby and Scarborough, via Robin Hoods Bay. Whitby has so much to offer all year round and is a very popular place to visit with its many festivals and events, such as the Folk Festival, The Whitby Regatta and the bi-annual Goth Weekend. There is a large selection of pubs offering live music, good food or a quiet drink, quaint antique and gift shops and famous fish and chip shops nestled amongst the cobbled back streets and main shopping areas. The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights including the stunning abbey and St Mary’s Church, positioned on the cliff top where you can enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. There are many pretty resorts dotted along the coast including Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay which are great for exploring our maritime history including Captain James Cook, smugglers and pirates. There are watersports, surf schools and even whale watching trips to be found along the coast.
Whitehall 1 is also the perfect base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Travel by steam train into the heart of ’Heartbeat’ country, or take a fishing trip out to sea on one of the many boat trips that leave the harbour. The Cleveland Way snakes along the coast and is a must for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Falling Foss Waterfall, Roseberry Topping and Sutton Bank are just some of the natural beauty attractions in the area, whilst the medieval walled city of York is just an hour’s drive or train ride away with its National Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre or just exploring the medieval cobbled shopping area. Beach 750 yards. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 250 yards.
