Lake, river or deep sea fishing can also be found nearby, and guests can actually bring their own boat as the owner’s land is on the shoreline. During the summer months, there are regattas in the bay, with old fashioned Irish boats such as ’currachs’ and ’Galway Hookers.’ There are beautiful, white sand beaches in Carna, and sea kayaking is also available. There are also many islands in the area to explore. For golfers, Oughterard is a lovely parkland course, and Connemara Golf Club in Ballyconneely is a challenging links course. Kylemore Abbey, the Connemara National Park, the Aran Islands, Inisbofin and Galway City are all worth a day trip and are within easy reach.
