The Dower House is situated on The Somerset Levels within a working dairy farm, set on one of the Lost Islands of Somerset. The area is steeped in local history. Dairy cows, sheep, ducks, chickens and the owner’s horses are all a stone’s throw from the conservatory door. The milk produced on the farm supplies the oldest surviving farmhouse Cheddar cheesemaker.
Nearby there are many different things to see and do, including willow weaving, visiting a local cider farm, a vineyard, walking along the Parrett Trail, cycling many scenic routes (bikes can be hired locally) and exploring a nature reserve, to name just a few. Footpaths are just outside the conservatory door which will lead you to many and varied country walks, including access to the extensive Parrett Trail system.
Attractions include, but are not limited to, Aller Hill Vineyard, the Bere Cider Company, The Dragon Pool, Muchelney Pottery, King’s Sedgemoor Equestrian and Musgrove Willows. Pubs are a short walk or drive away with varied menus and activities.
Within an easy drive are the towns of Langport, 5 minutes, and Somerton, 10 minutes, both hosting independent shops and art galleries, together with all the usual food shops selling local produce; Street, with its Clarks Village retail outlet, 15 minutes; Taunton and Yeovil, 20 minutes; and Wells Cathedral and Sherborne Abbey, 30 minutes. North and south coast beaches are within an hour.
The property is within easy reach of both the M5 and A303. Bristol and Exeter Airports are within a 1-hour drive. Beach 25 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
