Set in its own walled garden which is completely private, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is ideal for those seeking a romantic getaway. Part of the Groves Estate built for Sir William Lynch in around 1750, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is surrounded by high Grade II listed walls which shelter a gloriously sunny garden, spanning around a third of an acre, which is bursting with unusual plants and flowers including a fig tree. Here you will find your very own secret garden, a perfect retreat into countryside tranquillity – well away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Inside, the detached cottage has been renovated with luxury bed linen, toiletries and fittings. The medieval local village of Staple has a friendly pub/restaurant and Wingham and Sandwich are a short drive away. Canterbury is less than 10 miles away and is bursting with shops and restaurants. There is a great choice of beaches nearby including Broadstairs, Sandwich Bay and Ramsgate.

Gamekeeper’s Cottage is perfect for couples who want to spend some quality time together; those in need of peace and escape can wander around their own ’Garden of Eden’, before exploring the beautiful countryside and nearby coast – the best Kent has to offer. Even France is accessible with the Eurotunnel, and the ports at Dover and Folkestone close by. There is a bus stop within walking distance with hourly buses running to Sandwich and Canterbury. Shop and restaurant 2½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Gamekeeper’s Cottage can be booked together with The Bothy (UKC1061) to accommodate up to 6 guests. These three Grade II listed holiday properties are located on part of the Groves Estate, which was built for Sir William Lynch in around 1750. Guests are also welcome to explore the wildflower meadow which lies at the edge of the grounds alongside the main house. Sandwich, close to the beach and containing more listed buildings than any other village in the UK, is only 6 miles away. The cathedral city of Canterbury is also a short drive and is a lively place with plenty of diverse shopping, clubs and restaurants. One can even hop on the Ferry, or Eurotunnel for a trip over to France. Shop and restaurant 2½ miles, pub 1 mile.
The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 6 guests.

Very small, cooking facilities not very good, lots of rubbish inside gate at entrance to walled garden.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; This guest arrived and left after 30 minutes, demanding a full refund four days later. They complained about the size of the cottage. The photographs and details on the advert make it very clear that this is not a large place but, as I have said before, it is finished to a very high standard and it is to be found within the most beautiful, private, walled garden. The rubbish to which they refer was some temporary building rubble that was hidden under a cover and out of sight but - unbeknown to us - the cover had blown away in the wind. The area is now completely cleared. We do not pretend this is a large cottage and this is reflected in the price. To give a 1/10 following a 30 minute visit seems extraordinarily unfair. This guest did not contact us to let us know they were leaving, or give us any opportunity to rectify the situation. Even worse, because they didn’t let us know they had left after 30 minutes, a very nice strawberry swirl Marks and Spencer’s welcome pack cake went to waste. I hope future guests will look at our very positive reviews in the past - some guests have given 9 and 10 out of 10 - and understand this may not be a true reflection of Gamekeeper’s Cottage.

Quite a small place very compact. Hob is in a corner, being short I found it difficult to reach. Sofa not very comfortable. Walled garden very nice area. Even with the above mentioned we had a very nice week at Gamekeeper's Cottage.
