The Peak District National Park can be reached in around 40 minutes, and offers a wide range of outdoor opportunities. The birthplace of Poet Laureate Ted Hughes, Mytholmroyd is just a 5-minute drive away, and the charming and vibrant market town of Hebden Bridge (winner of the small market town 2016) can be reached within a 10-minute drive. Shibden Hall, an exquisite, 600 year old timber manor house, set within 37 hectares, is close by as is the Grade l listed Piece Hall, the last remaining example of the great northern cloth halls, which has recently undergone a £19 million restoration programme. There are many more heritage buildings, beautiful parks and National Trust properties all within an easy commute, such as Hardcastle Crags, Towneley Hall, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the picturesque Bolton Abbey. For those wanting to give their cars a rest, Mytholmroyd, Sowerby Bridge and Hebden Bridge all have a train station with direct services to both Manchester and Leeds (less than an hour away). Nearby shops and restaurants 1½ miles.

My wife and I wanted to book a cottage for a week but wanted to be close enough to home to allow my daughter and her boyfriend to come and stay just for the long bank holiday weekend. As they have a dog we searched for dog friendly cottages in various locations and finally chose Sands Farm Cottage. And boy were we glad we did. The property itself appears to be either new or recently renovated and is presented to a high spec. You literally have everything you would possibly need apart from clothes and food! The living area comprises a separate living room with sofas and tv. There is then a large open plan kitchen, dining area and separate seating area looking out over the valley. Upstairs are 2 very comfortable bedrooms - one en suite - and a separate bathroom. Both bathrooms are high spec with rainfall showers and a bath in the shared bathroom. A separate utility room with washer and drier completes the accommodation. This is where the dogs can sleep. The downstairs is tiled throughout so muddy feet and paw prints can be easily cleaned up. And to be honest when you live in Yorkshire you forget just how outstanding the area around the old industrial West Yorkshire is. It’s a bit of a dicey drive getting up to the cottage but well worth it as the views over the valley are superb and being off the beaten track means it’s pretty quiet. There is plenty of parking space and Alan the owner was on hand to greet us and point out places of interest when we arrived. And there was a lovely welcome pack of wine and sweets on arrival as well. The owner and his family live in the adjoining property but keep themselves to themselves. I’m sure though that should you need anything they would be happy to assist any way they could. All in all we had a fantastic time and I would happily return to the cottage in future.

I booked Sands Farm as part of my wife's 40th birthday celebrations. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner who gave us a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates :) the cottage itself is beautiful and very well equipped with high end items. The location is great to explore Bronte country and beyond with some lovely local walks close by. The towns near by offer a mix of traditional and bespoke shops, restaurants and pubs and have something for everyone (dogs included). We had a very relaxing stay at Sands cottage and can honestly say that it's one of the nicest holiday let's we've ever had the pleasure to stay in! We will definitely go back. Highly recommended. Thank you :)
