Rhuside has been lovingly modernised and decorated, with lots of white, exposed wooden floorboards that allow the classic, high quality furnishings and artworks to stand out beautifully. With so much natural light entering the property, it’s no surprise that an artist used to live and paint in the property. This charming bungalow is at the end of a little track just out of Campbeltown centre and very close to the Glen Scotia Distillery. It has a lovely private garden that has been cleverly terraced to provide excellent views out to sea, Campbeltown and Davaar Island.
Upon entering the property you immediately feel calmer thanks to the thoughtful decoration. The living room is at the front of the house with a large window framing seascape views. It is a simple room with well-chosen furniture, a collection of local books, a TV and an electric fire. The kitchen is to the rear of the house with a dining table that can seat six comfortably, and a door leading out to the garden. Beyond the kitchen is a modern and spacious family bathroom with a quality power shower. The rest of the house is dedicated to the bedrooms, a double room and two twin rooms, all freshly decorated white with natural light in mind. They are spacious and inviting with beautiful views of the garden and out to the sea. The garden is well maintained with many mature shrubs and trees. The owner has been mindful to ensure the wonderful views are still visible from different locations in the garden.
A short walk from Rhuside is the harbour side with an interesting collection of boats. Campbeltown has an array of shops, bars, restaurants, cafés and a selection of distilleries. There is also a community run tourism information office and a historically important independent picture house cinema.
Beyond Campbeltown, once called “the whisky capital of the world” due to its 30 distilleries, there are excellent beaches to enjoy, including Westport and Southend on the Mull of Kintyre, as well as countless footpaths and quiet roads to walk and cycle along. Golfers will be more than satisfied with Machrahanish golf club, only 10 minutes away by car. The course was designed by famed Scottish golfer Old Tom Morris in 1876. A newer course, Machrahanish Dunes, gives golfers variety at a world class level in a wild and inspiring location.
Rhuside is a calming and inspiring place to stay for a week or two. It’s perfect for a family or small group of friends keen to spend time outdoors and have a sanctuary to return to and recharge. Beach 5 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
