Accommodation description

This beautiful property never fails to impress, having held the title of ‘Best Conversion of an old building in the UK’, Rathven Parish Hall seamlessly combines modern living with original features. This property offers a magnificent open plan living, dining and kitchen area, all on the first floor to maximise the endless sea views. The warm underfloor heating and wood burner give the property a wonderful cosy feeling, while the huge glass windows allow natural light to fill the room, with an amazing view of the Moray Firth.

The small fishing village of Portessie is situated around 2 miles from the larger town of Buckie. It sits amongst other stunning coastal towns and forms part of the Walk Highlands route. These walks offer ever-changing and dramatic views along the Moray Firth shorelines.
There is a popular coffee shop nearby, and in the larger town of Buckie you will find all the local amenities you could need for your stay. Visit one of the many fish restaurants and enjoy the fresh catch of the day, or learn about the area at the Fishing Heritage Centre.

Take a trip to the nearby village of Portknockie and marvel at the natural sea arch of Bow Fiddle Rock. Carry on a little further to Cullen and sample the famous Cullen Skink Soup, a warming Scottish dish made of smoked haddock, onions and potatoes.

If you like a round of golf, then you will be spoilt for choice in this area, with several courses very easily accessible. Portessie is also very well placed to enjoy the regions Whisky Distilleries, with many in this area of Moray and Aberdeenshire.

A fun family day put can be had at Spey Bay, 9 miles away, where you can take lovely walks and enjoy a visit to the Scottish Dolphin Centre too. The larger town of Elgin is 18 miles away and has everything from parks to museums, providing something for everyone. No hesitation in highly recommending this property; a beautiful conversion with a large open plan kitchen / dining / sitting area on the first floor looking directly out over the sea. Spotlessly clean on arrival, very well appointed - at no point during the week did we think "If only there was a....". Owners very attentive and helpful by email if any questions. It is situated a few metres from both the Moray Coastal Trail and National Cycle Route 1, with the small town of Buckie just a short walk away, providing fresh seafood down at the harbour area. If you are looking for a fresh air break with a luxury base to return to this is perfect.
