Pallendor is a detached, upside-down house, set in a quiet residential area, and is within easy walking distance of the centre of Falmouth, perfect for small families and couples all year round. Close to the National Maritime Museum and Events Square, this property is a great base from which to enjoy the many events that Falmouth holds, including prestigious sailing events, Sea Shanty Week, Falmouth Week and the famous Oyster Festival in October. Falmouth is a vibrant town at any time of the year, with its busy port, marinas and Pendennis Castle, which is perched on the headland overlooking the Fal Estuary towards St Mawes Castle. Both castles were built by Henry VIII and are open daily to the public. The town also offers a wide selection of national and local shops, art galleries and a cinema. Gyllyngvase beach is nearby and is a magnet for families, as well as having a popular beach café and restaurant which is open all year, and Castle beach is perfect for rock pooling.

The area offers beautiful beaches and water sports including scuba diving, kayaking and sailing, as well as attracting walkers as there is easy access to the coastal paths. Birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts can visit nearby Swanpool Nature Reserve. Sub-tropical gardens can be found nearby, including Trebah, Glendurgan and Trelissick. The area can also be explored on the water, with a choice of ferry services available, including the St Mawes Ferry, or take a day or evening cruises along the coastline and down the beautiful Helford River. Take a sea safari trip, which offers the experience of close up encounters with basking sharks, dolphins and an abundance of other local wildlife. Beach ¼ mile. Shop and restaurant ¼ mile, pub 500 yards.

    We were very disappointed with Pollendor which was clearly very unloved - tatty faded furniture and cushions. The balcony door in the upstairs room was extremely difficult to open. The kitchen equipment was very basic with rusty unmatched cutlery and meagre crockery (apart from mugs). It seemed to be furnished with junk shop items. The beds however were very comfortable and the bedding clean - although underneath were cobwebs. No full length mirror and no wardrobe in the double bedroom. The back garden was totally overgrown and no chairs or table. The frontage was very untidy with weeds and broken paving and our car only just fitted. We have had much better cottages from Welcome and expected more than this - we would not recommend. The location was fair - 7 minute walk down the hills and steps to town but a lot longer to climb back up!

    Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your comments, I was deeply saddened to hear your thoughts on the property. Pollendor is much loved and I enjoy spending time there when I can. The current photographs clearly show the property accurately, with no changes to furnishings or fittings since they were taken. Pollendor is a three star property that accepts pets. The balcony door on the first floor has a rather secure mechanism and there are operating instructions in the guest/house folder. However, following your comments I have now made sure the opening instructions are clear on the key fob attached to the patio doors. The cutlery was purchased when the cottage opened for letting only last year and the pottery is hand made by myself and local artists. I will ensure a full length mirror is provided. Regarding the garden we have a regular gardener but due to the very wet weather I understand it has been difficult to arrange. The parking in this area of Falmouth is premium and the drive is an absolute bonus, I understand this is described as tight parking for one small car. The property has sea views from the first floor and is within easy walking distance to town and beaches. I understand the seven night stay was under £50 per night, one would struggle to find one room in the town for this so for a two bedroom property sleeping four. with parking at under £12.50 per head per night is surly excellent value!
