Old Applecroft Farmhouse and Old Applecroft Farm Cottage are delightful, detached buildings, accessed via a track approximately ¾ mile long. As a welcome to this picturesque area, each booking in the farmhouse or the cottage will receive a welcome gift on arrival.
Old Applecroft Farmhouse has a farmhouse style throughout with the added feature of a large, unheated conservatory/games room with pool and table tennis where guests can enjoy 180° views of the surrounding 7 acres of grounds. It is set over a large area and includes a separate wing with a further living/games room. This is ideal for a large family, perfect for weekends away with close proximity to fantastic transport links, but situated deep in the countryside of Essex.
Old Applecroft Farm Cottage is also detached with a farmhouse style and ideal for small families and couples.
The village of Great Henny is very rural but has all you need including a shop and riverside pub/restaurant. The ancient market town of Sudbury is nearby as is the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dating back to Saxon times, there is a long history in the weaving and silk industries. Much of the work by Thomas Gainsbourgh was inspired by the beauty of Sudbury and you can visit his birthplace, art gallery and museum, exhibiting a number of his paintings. The area is particularly famous for the work of Constable and is referred to as ’Constable Country’. The River Stour provides the setting for much of his work. To the east you can visit Colchester with shopping, restaurants and pubs. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
Old Applecroft Farmhouse (ref UKC1462) and Old Applecroft Cottage (ref UKC1463) can be booked together to accommodate up to 12 guests.

Lovely large property that promised so much but just fell short! There was no welcome gift (which didn’t really matter). Smelt really musty, we knew it had been empty for three weeks and had obviously not been cleaned or aired prior to our visit. Mould in the dishwasher which really smelled bad, a bin in the kitchen that didn’t stay closed(not great in 36 degree heat and a when you have a black lab that lives for food). No sheet on one of the beds on arrival and had to make a call to get one put on. Had to buy descaler for the kettle and all shower heads needed descaling. Dead flies in the freezer. Took us a couple of days to find this as the door catch to the utility room is dodgy and we actually thought it was locked! We propped it open after that so that no one could get stuck in there. The locks to the front door were also temperamental. The first few days our dog was covered in cobwebs and dust as she explored the house. There were tissues and wrappers behind cupboards. On Sunday someone arrived and asked us to move our cars so they could get into the garage and proceeded to start mowing the lawns! Thought this was a big invasion of our privacy especially as we knew it was empty immediately before and after our holiday. We asked him to stop and he then announced that on Tuesday we would have a drone flying overhead as they were going to be taking pictures for new website. Umm, don’t think I’d given my permission to appear in those. Lastly had a leak in the conservatory roof. Owners may not know this but we had boiling hot weather and massive storms at night and came down to a large puddle in the morning. Also stated an enclosed garden which we wanted for our dog but it was an overgrown inkempt courtyard that you couldn’t spend any time in! The main garden was not enclosed. Such a shame as it could be truly spectacular but when your paying for a holiday you’ve saved hard for these small things just add up and leave you feeling disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating my father's and grandson's birthday at Old Applecroft Farmhouse. There was plenty of room and we found the house to be tastefully decorated and well equipped. Views are wonderful and location lovely and quiet. Our only negative is that we thought more attention could be given to the outside of the house, leaves covered the approaching steps making them slippery and gutters were filled with weeds, we do appreciate that it was mid winter. We must book in summer next time to experience the changing scenery.
