A great base for walking, Roydon Woods is accessed along a path just 100 yards from Little Woodley, and is within the Hampshire Wildlife Trust area. There are fantastic direct scenic walks close by onto the miles of unspoilt heathland of the forest, where ponies and cattle wander freely along the roads. It is only 3 miles from Brockenhurst, which has a good range of local facilities including a butcher, greengrocer, baker, many restaurants, inns and shops. There is cycle hire available and a railway station, which can take you to Waterloo in approximately 90 minutes.
As well as miles of beautiful walks, the surrounding area can be explored by car or on bicycle via the many cycle paths - discovering some of the appealing villages, towns, attractions and gardens. The village of Beaulieu, with its Motor Museum, lies within easy driving distance, as well as Buckler’s Hard on the Beaulieu River. The Georgian market town of Lymington is also about 4 miles away, offering an outdoor sea water swimming baths, an extensive range of shopping facilities, a famous Saturday market and excellent amenities for yachtsmen, including two marinas. The ferry to the Isle of Wight can also be taken from here, a lovely day trip for the family! The nearest beaches at Milford-on-Sea are about 15 minutes’ drive, and Christchurch with Avon Beach is about half an hour away. Keyhaven, 8 miles, has a small ferry to Hurst Castle. The coastline with its golden beaches at Bournemouth, Sandbanks and Poole is within a short drive, and offers many popular activities such as windsurfing, boating and swimming. Further afield, Winchester Cathedral is well worth a trip, along with Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool. Marwell Zoo, Peppa Pig World and The Owl and Otter Park also make for great days out. Christchurch Priory, Stonehenge, and the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute are also within easy reach. Beach 8 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
