Accommodation description

All on ground floor: Living room/dining room/kitchen. 1 twin bedroom (zip and link, can be 7ft double). Shower room 1 with walk-in shower and toilet. Shower room 2 with toilet.

Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Travel cot and highchair. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Electric cooker. Shared laundry facilities (coin operated). Lawned garden with patio and furniture (shared with another property on-site). Portable gas barbecue. Bike store. Parking (2 cars). No smoking. NB: There is a stream 10 yards from the cottage.

Fell walking from the door

Little Beck is a delightful cottage style ground floor holiday apartment, part of the owner’s farmhouse. Gill Head Farm is a working hill farm which also runs a caravan and campsite. Set against the spectacular backdrop of Blencathra and the northern fells with a lovely rural yet central location, this is perfect for walkers and nature lovers. Only 4 miles from Ullswater, with its many great walks, water sports, lake steamers, fishing etc. The nearest town is Keswick on the shores of Derwentwater and the popular resorts of Windermere and Grasmere are just a short scenic drive away. Golf is also available locally. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 0.5 miles.

    Couldn’t hide our disappointment on arrival. We chose Little Beck as other family members were using the camp site and we wanted to be close to them. The location was really the only plus point. The accommodation was tired and dirty. Advertised with a bathroom and a shower room. Only a shower room in reality. Private garden is misleading as it is not adjoined and is shared with another property. Had to ask for new towels as ones provided had a strong smell of vomit. Furniture covered in dog hair and strong smell of dog as a result. Price is closer to 4/5 star and in reality it is lucky to get 2.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry you felt the need to write such a poor review after checking out of Little Beck, we are a hard working family run business, offering accommodation for over 40 years and take great pride in our work, our accommodation pricing and grading is as recommended by the Agency, they regularly inspect our property and suggest any changes required to keep in line with tariff and grading, whilst our cottage style property may not be contemporary or sleek, the furniture and fittings are all modern and up to date, all our properties are redecorated as required and work was done in Little Beck this winter, so to suggest this apartment is tired is perhaps more down to personal taste? We always ask for and act on feedback - on leaving the property you did comment that you felt the flat was in need of a better clean, this was discussed and asked if there was anything further we could do but you did not wish to take it any further as ‘it was OK’. We are a pet friendly property, as such we provide materials for people to help keep the property clean, we are thorough when changing over the property and as such gain consistently good rates for cleanliness, however if pet hairs are missed we will ensure extra vigilance in future. Laundry is always freshly laundered; we would never put in our property anything that smells of vomit. This property is not advertised with a private garden, the large shared garden, and indeed, acres of well-kept public areas have always been more than enough space for most people however, I will contact the agency to amend the bathroom description, I have already asked them in the past to remove the wording about the bath as when we refurbished the bathroom, we took out the bath to include the large walk in shower instead. Whilst we don’t expect people to clean, we always ask customers to leave the property as they found it as is stated in the booking conditions. Unfortunately upon departure the property was found to have been left in an unsatisfactory condition which then required extra cleaning. As can be evidenced from our previous reviews, the majority of our guests enjoy their stay and leave much more positive feedback.

    Excellent accommodation and surroundings. Ideal for dogs. Plenty of walks. When we were there it was out of school holiday time so it was very quiet and relaxing. Penrith and Keswick conveniently close.
