Accommodation description

The delightful harbour village of Maidens, situated on the largely unexplored coastline of south western Scotland and just 1.5 miles from magnificent golf at Turnberry, is the enviable location for this lovingly restored fisherman’s bothy. This studio-style accommodation boasts its own private decked sitting-out area and is surrounded by the owners’ pretty garden, complete with pond, whilst the harbour, village green and coastline abundant with birdlife are almost on the doorstep. Close by, Culzean Castle is well worth a visit as are Souter Johnnie’s Cottage at Kirkoswald and the Burns National Heritage Centre at Alloway. Trips to the island of Arran depart from Ardrossan and day trips to Northern Ireland from Stranraer are easily possible. Troon is 20 miles. An excellent restaurant is within a short stroll and Maidens has a village shop. Pub 100 yards.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room with double bed (6ft zip and link, can be twin). Kitchen. Shower room and toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. DVD. CD. Microwave. Shared garden. Patio and furniture. Barbecue. Parking. No smoking. NB: Unfenced pond and drops in garden.

This is a stunning little cottage very clean and the owners are very nice and very helpful. I am loathed to give any negatives but there are one or two that have to be mentioned. Firstly we have cottage holidays in the UK two or three times over a year and this cottage is expensive for its size in comparison to the cottages we rent in England and Wales at the same time of the season. It is a studio cottage rental but the best has been made out of the space available. The cottage is situated behind the owners house in the back garden and it is not really for anyone that has mobility problems. The chairs give little support and there is no couch due to space availability. On a positive note, the kitchen and bathroom facilities are good although the kitchen has limited work surface areas, but, plenty of utensils if you are cooking your own food. This is a very warm cottage if you venture out in the low season. Good television reception and the Wi Fi is fine This property would be good if you like to play Golf with Turnberry ten minutes away or if you like walking. Nearby historical sites are Culzean Castle and better still if you take photographs is Dunure Castle which is awesome. Then a fairly short drive to Alloway for the Robert Burns experience. There is a grocery store just a short distance away which has almost everything you could want including what I suspect to be the biggest selection of flavoured crisps in the UK, never knew the flavours existed. I like to fish for trout and there are quite a few waters available with just a short drive. All in all we enjoyed the visit, I would not return due to my personal health problems, I simply just need a bit more space and I would not rent a studio accommodation again knowing what I know now. But for all you healthy couples out there, this is a good rental and well worth a visit !!

accommodation was excellent. The hosts Caroline and Dennis were very helpful in any questions we asked. Even supplied a good "welcome pack (including very fresh eggs from chickens in the garden)"
