Looking for your next Lake District escape? This spacious, detached house in a peaceful village setting, with large rooms, great views and garden is an ideal choice. A plethora of British birds can be seen from the house, with many nesting in the garden. You can also regularly see deer, owls, bats and hares from the windows.
You will love the space in each of the rooms at How Dyke, with lots of natural light and free space to move around, which often comes at a premium with properties in the area. The majority of the rooms are all on the first floor which makes it a superb social house and great for spending time with family and friends. Sleeping up to eight guests, this house is ideal for larger families, two families or even multiple couples, with or without children. The entrance to the house is effectively on the first floor but there’s more to this house than meets the eye. It features a double bedroom and two twin bedrooms, each with their own family bath/shower room across the hallway. There is ample hanging space and storage and each have views of Skiddaw and the garden at the rear. The spacious open plan living/dining room is where guests will typically spend most of their time. With ample seating and dining space it makes a great communal area to enjoy breakfast and plan the days adventures, whilst at night, guests can snuggle up with a glass of wine and set the world to rights. Downstairs features a well-equipped utility room and a bedroom with twin beds and what is best described as a den, with a three-seater sofa, monitor, DVD player and plenty of movies to keep the little ones entertained. The children will feel like they have their own special place, leaving the adults to have a good catch-up upstairs.
The quiet village location offers an elevated position which enhances the views all around and with little to no light pollution, you can enjoy dark skies and starry nights in the evening. During the day, the garden is great for spending time in the open air and for soaking up the sunshine, complete with garden furniture, lawn and patio.
The village of Setmurthy is within the Lake District National Park, between Bassenthwaite and Cockermouth and offers a fantastic base to explore the surrounding landscape. Whether you’re looking for gentle rolling hills and forest walks, rugged mountainous climbing, stunning lakeside scenery or you just want to visit the local Cumbrian towns, How Dyke is certainly a great base. The Lakes Distillery is just ¾ miles away offering tasting tours with locally produced gin, whisky and vodka. The mouth of the River Derwent as it reaches the basin of Bassenthwaite Lake is within 1 mile and it is just 2 miles to The Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 species of wild animals, great for a day out with the family. Take a drive to the birthplace of William Wordsworth in Cockermouth, just 5 miles away, with a great selection of local pubs, restaurants and café’s, or a 15-minute drive to Keswick which is full of great shopping, tourist attractions and the starting point for many good walking routes, including Catbells and Latrigg. Beach 12 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub 2¼ miles and restaurant ¾ mile.
