Cayton is located between Scarborough and the quiet, family friendly resort of Filey, and is a village with all the amenities you would need. There are a couple of shops, a pub and a post office. Cayton Bay is just under a mile away and can be reached by car or by foot, it’s approximately a 30 minute walk down to the sands. This is a very popular beach especially for families.
Scarborough is the nearest town and here you’ll find an abundance of things to do from shopping, the theatre, restaurants and of course the award-winning beaches. Scarborough has two bays, both very different. The north bay is much quieter with beautiful scenery and a large sandy beach whereas the south bay has the hustle and bustle of a traditional seaside resort with amusements, donkeys, sandcastles and fish and chips, so something to suit everybody. The flat walk along the seafront is over three miles long so perfect for that evening stroll. At the far end of the bays you’ll find the Sea Life Centre, a great attraction for the kids. Further down the coast there’s Filey, Flamborough Head and the traditional Victorian seaside resort of Bridlington. The RSPB nature reserve at Bempton is definitely worth a visit where you can see the puffins and seals in their natural habitat. Yorkshire is famous for its stately homes and there’s quite a few within close proximity of Glanmore. Sledmere House, Burton Agnes Hall, Sewerby Hall and Castle Howard are all worth a visit.
Exploring the North York Moors is also possible. A steam train from Pickering takes you up through Goathland and on to Whitby crossing the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors and Heartbeat country. There are open top tourist buses and river cruises that give you a chance to see the city and learn about its fascinating history.
