Large enclosed garden and 3½ grounds (shared with the owner). Patio with garden furniture. Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: There is a fenced pond in the garden.

Conveniently situated on the edge of Skirling village, within the extensive grounds of the owner’s arts and crafts home, this pretty detached cottage, with lofty beamed open plan living space complete with cosy wood burner, also has a comfortable sun room which looks out into pretty woodland in the shared garden. Very comfortably furnished and decorated to provide a welcoming base from which to enjoy this lovely area of rolling hills and fine views. Guests are welcome to use all of the owner’s 3½-acre grounds and garden, which the owner’s dogs also use. The market town of Biggar, 3 miles, has a good variety of pubs, restaurants and small specialist food shops, and has a surprising number of events and festivals throughout the year, including the traditional Hogmanay bonfire in the middle of the town. Visit Peebles for good shops and restaurants, Traquair House and Kailzie Gardens. The property is around an hour’s drive from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, or by train from Carstairs, 12 miles. Hill walking, cycling, fishing and golf all nearby. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

    On arrival we were initially disappointed to find that the entrance to the cottage was on the side of a fairly busy road. However we soon discovered that the extensive grounds at the rear were perfectly safe and secure for our 2 dogs so need not have worried. Much care had been lavished on the cottage to ensure visitors every need was catered for. Whilst Skirling is a delightful sleepy hamlet, Biggar, in contrast, a 10 minute drive away, is a lively market town. It's high street has a plentiful variety of individual shops and eating places. We spent a wonderful relaxing week in this delightful cottage and we were all -dogs included- very sorry to leave. They loved the freedom of the grounds, the daily visits from the owners dogs and their woodland walks. We are already planning a return visit.
