Frankel Cottage is the quintessential country retreat. Situated in the Vale of Whittingham, nestled at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, this location makes an idyllic choice for those seeking peace and tranquility. This ’chocolate box’ cottage oozes charm and character, and has a lovely multi-fuel burner in the living area, ensuring a cosy welcome retreat regardless of the season. Frankel Cottage sits at the edge of small terrace of three in the picturesque village of Whittingham, which has its own Pele tower and a church which dates back to Saxon times.

Ramblers and cyclists will absorb the wild and lonely vistas of this stunning location. Enjoy a riverside picnic in the breathtaking Ingram Valley, only a short drive away, or take a walk in Alwinton, the gateway to the most remote part of the Coquet Valley, only 12 miles away. A little further north is the Harthope Valley with its dramatic crags and the privately owned College Valley.

Frankel Cottage is located close to the edge of the dramatic landscape across the Northumberland National Park making this a perfect base for walkers and cyclists or those who simply enjoy being outdoors. The picturesque village of Rothbury straddles the banks of the trout-rich River Coquet and is nestled between the Simonside and Lordenshaw Hills. There are many facilities available here including shops, pubs, tea rooms and an 18-hole golf course along the river bank. The National Trust owned ’Cragside’ is within easy reach and well worth a visit. The historic market town of Alnwick is only 7 miles away and offers a wide range of amenities including Barter Books, one of the largest second-hand book shops within the UK. Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle are popular visitor attractions too. The Heritage coastline, recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is only a short drive east making Frankel Cottage an excellent base to discover the wild and lonely hills with easy access to wide stretches of golden sandy beaches too. Beach 12 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub 2½ miles and restaurant 7 miles.

Great little cottage, well equipped and very homely. Wi-Fi would be a great addition. Lovely area, but not in walking distance for local amenities, which isn't an issue if you plan while your out and about. We really enjoyed it. 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs.
