Ramblers and cyclists will absorb the wild and lonely vistas of this stunning location. Enjoy a riverside picnic in the breathtaking Ingram Valley, only a short drive away, or take a walk in Alwinton, the gateway to the most remote part of the Coquet Valley, only 12 miles away. A little further north is the Harthope Valley with its dramatic crags and the privately owned College Valley.
Frankel Cottage is located close to the edge of the dramatic landscape across the Northumberland National Park making this a perfect base for walkers and cyclists or those who simply enjoy being outdoors. The picturesque village of Rothbury straddles the banks of the trout-rich River Coquet and is nestled between the Simonside and Lordenshaw Hills. There are many facilities available here including shops, pubs, tea rooms and an 18-hole golf course along the river bank. The National Trust owned ’Cragside’ is within easy reach and well worth a visit. The historic market town of Alnwick is only 7 miles away and offers a wide range of amenities including Barter Books, one of the largest second-hand book shops within the UK. Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle are popular visitor attractions too. The Heritage coastline, recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is only a short drive east making Frankel Cottage an excellent base to discover the wild and lonely hills with easy access to wide stretches of golden sandy beaches too.
