Kendal is an old market town famous for its festivals, historic sights, including Kendal Castle, and is the home of Kendal Mint Cake. The castle can be reached on foot if you’re feeling energetic, where you can enjoy a further 2-mile circular walk taking in the Castle on the Hill, and the River Kent. An award winning pub is a 15 minute walk away from the cottage, offering a selection of beers and craft ales.
Situated only 10 minutes’ from the M6, Kendal is known as ’The Gateway to the Lakes’. In just 15 minutes’ by car, you’ll reach Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere, and in 20 minutes, Ambleside. These popular tourist hotspots are ideal for a day out to shop, eat, drink and make the most of the natural beauty that Lake Windermere offers. You can also reach Windermere by train if you wish, with Kendal railway station being only 15 minutes’ walk away. There is also a regular bus service to Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick from the stop, just a few minutes’ walk away.
