Accommodation description

Dating back to the early 1800s, this detached, stone built former shippon provides beautifully presented accommodation, and offers plenty of charm and character as well as having all the modern comforts to be expected from a holiday home, including open plan living, underfloor heating, woodburner and wi-fi. It is surrounded by unspoilt countryside and is perfect for a couple but with the capacity to accommodate up to four people looking for a comfortable base from which to explore all that the area has to offer. A beautiful, tranquil swimming pool is available close to the barn, and private reservations are available by direct arrangement with the owner.

The property is located in the small hamlet of Whitechapel at the foot of Beacon Fell. Close to Garstang and Longridge, gateway towns to the Forest of Bowland designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is ideal for those who love the great outdoors with some of the best walking and cycling opportunities in Lancashire. Other activities available locally include fishing and golf.

Whilst the property enjoys a quiet rural location, it is very accessible and there are lots to see and do within easy driving distance. Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley is just 14 miles away with the bustling market town of Clitheroe with its hilltop castle and nearby Pendle Hill. The university town of Lancaster, is 17 miles, with its aqueduct and castle. Preston, 10 miles, has many shops and mainline train station for London and Glasgow.
For those who enjoy the seaside, the Fylde Coast, with popular resorts including Blackpool with its beach, piers, pleasure beach and famous tower, and Lytham St Annes, is just 25 miles away. The Lake District can be reached in under an hour and the Yorkshire Dales in about one and a half hours, making this the ideal touring base. Local markets and farm tea shops abound or relax in a cosy local pub to enjoy Lancashire food and drink. Shop and restaurant 3 miles, pub 1 mile, family church 1 mile.

Ground floor: Living room with small double sofa bed (for flexible sleeping arrangements)/kitchen with breakfast area and tiled floor. Separate toilet. First floor: 1 double (5ft) bedroom (no door) with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Although the cottage was comfortable there was only very spasmodic and infrequent telephone signal. The cottage details mentioned wfi there was no mention of the lack of adequate telephone signal. As my wife has serious medical conditions we are dependent on a telephone should she need help. I feel this information should be advised to future visitors.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. We are extremely disappointed that you felt distressed, due to your medical concerns, as a result of limited mobile signal within the barn. Generally a signal is available in the kitchen and immediately outside the front door. I cleaned the barn personally for your arrival and feel concerned at your score for our cleanliness. It’s the first time since opening in March 2016 that we have had a score of less than 10. I’m sorry we were on holiday during your stay, perhaps if we had met personally we could have helped resolve your concerns. We trust you will accept our apologies. Our aim is to provide our guests with a refreshing and relaxing holiday in a beautiful rural location. Clearly we have failed to meet your expectations and for that we are truly sorry.
