The cottage derives its name from a first floor view over the River Derwent which meanders nearby after leaving Bassenthwaite Lake. Derwent View is a detached rural property set in mature gardens with private parking and a garage to store equipment and bicycles. This large family home is a great base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and the northern Lake District fells. It boasts two double bedrooms and a single, comfortably sleeping up to five guests, making it ideal for couples and families alike. With a well-equipped kitchen and a spacious bathroom with separate shower cubicle, you will find all of the modern amenities you would expect from a 21st-century holiday home, mixed with traditional décor throughout the rest of the house. The kitchen/diner leads to a conservatory which makes the perfect spot to sit and soak up the rural views. There is the added benefit of two separate living rooms on the ground floor. One contains a Smart TV with complementary Netflix and Amazon Prime, as well as a warming open fire, perfect for relaxing in front of with a glass of wine. The other is a peaceful sitting room where you can settle down with a good book or in good company, after a day exploring the surrounding area.
Derwent View is set in the hamlet of Setmurthy and is only 700 yards from the mouth of Bassenthwaite Lake. The scenery in this area is stunning with a backdrop of the imposing Skiddaw seen from the front of the house. There are three local pubs within a couple of miles serving good food and an excellent selection of locally produced ales. Just 200 yards along the road you’ll find the Lakes Distillery, set in converted farm buildings; a great attraction offering tasting tours showcasing its gin, vodka and whisky, a shop selling its produce and also a great bistro. For the family, why not try The Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 species of animals, a great day out for all the family featuring live talks on the animals at feeding times and a bird of prey show not to be missed. If you want to be pampered the local spa is only 1½ miles away
Nature lovers will be delighted as the surrounding area is great for spotting birds of prey including buzzards, owls and kestrels, as well as the famous ospreys which can be viewed at the nearby viewing point at Bassenthwaite. The area is also home to indigenous red squirrels and weasels which often make a welcome appearance in the garden. Further afield you will find Cockermouth with a great selection of independent speciality shops, cafés, coffee shops, and the famous Jennings Brewery, offering tasting tours. Just 9 miles away is the popular town of Keswick, on the shores of Derwentwater, which offers an abundance of shopping and dining experiences as well as a variety of cultural hotspots and tourist attractions including The Pencil Museum, home to the world’s largest pencil. The Theatre by the Lake offers drama, art exhibitions, dance and occasional lectures. The mind-boggling Puzzling Place is fun for all ages. Beach 13¾ miles. Shop 2¼ miles, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
