  The cottage really was superb. Milk, fresh apple juice, bread and scones with jam and cream on arrival. Very well equipped for anybody want to cook or barbecue. Absolutely no contact with the cottage owners. Some may like that but on our last day we made the effort to knock on the farm door to thank them for our stay and say goodbyes, otherwise no contact would have been made at all. Full marks for everything with the exception of location. Nothing to do with Somerset or Dorset, both lovely counties with marvellous driving roads, but the road leading to the cottage would be a trauma for any vehicle not being an SUV! The surface is so bad for a quarter of a mile that your steering wheel shakes continuously and suspension and tyres really do take a hammering. The granite clippings are so large they could seriously damage any tyre that was more than half way through their wear. Fortunately all mine were new but I really did worry whether my BMW M sport would survive the twice daily trips to and from the main road. I did mention this to the owner when departing and his reply was a shrug and “that’s living in the country.” I do live in the country five minutes walk to Holme Fen in Cambridgeshire but would never subject my vehicle to that daily pounding. It is a pity because the properties and their sitting cannot be faulted, but surely something must be done for holiday makers who do not have Range Rovers or Jeeps. Loved the cottage and it’s siting, but that approach road would make me seriously think about booking again. It’s a pity.
