The Coquet is a bright and modern apartment situated within the heart of the historic market town of Alnwick. This unique building sits proudly above the cobbles and presents charm and character. This tasteful apartment is situated on the first floor which is accessed via stairs and enjoys views across this popular historic town.

Set all on one level, you enter the property into a gorgeous open plan kitchen/diner finished with modern, sleek units with all appliances integrated, the perfect kitchen for the designated chef to cook up a storm. From the kitchen brings you to the living area, an idyllic space ideal for the perfect relaxing night with one of your favourite films or books. Across the hall you will find two spacious double bedrooms with a shower room coming off the master bedroom and a separate toilet in the hallway.

When you’re ready to begin exploring this historic town, begin with a trip to the incredible and famous Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as ‘Hogwarts’ when filming scenes for the ‘Harry Potter’ films so it’s a must-visit for any fans. The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant.

Heading 4 miles east is the picture-perfect coastal village of Alnmouth where there is a gorgeous golden sandy beach. A short drive west brings you to the small town of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside Hills and where the River Coquet ebbs and flows. A short drive North brings you to the delightful fishing village of Seahouses. Start with a stroll around the idyllic harbour, then hop on a boat out to the Farne Islands, ideal for wildlife lovers, where you can observe the puffins and seals relaxing on the rocks. Walkers and cyclists can join the coastal path in either direction to further explore the picturesque coastline.

Head a little further North to discover miles of magnificent sandy beaches, as well as the village of Bamburgh, which is known for its dominant hilltop castle, overlooking the sea, along with its lighthouse, museum and golf club. A short drive along the coast will take you to the fishing village of Craster, with its lovely family-friendly beach and nearby attraction of the 14th century Dunstanburgh Castle, owned by the National Trust.

The Coquet can be booked together with The Lyne (UK34679), The Aln (UK34680) and The Till (UK34681) to accommodate up to 14 guests.

This is a lovely apartment over the shops in a perfect position bang in the middle of town. Contrary to previous reviews, access and parking were both very easy - 2hrs right outside and a 24 hr car park 200m away. There were just a few things that let it down: no light in the separate toilet, inadequate cutlery/utensils - both of which have been reported previously. The oven and grill pan were filthy and smelly and we had to wash some glasses and mugs before use. The worst thing however were the radiators in the shower room and wc which could not be turned off and were ridiculously hot, dangerous even. Had to keep the shower room door closed and leave a bath sheet over the radiator to avoid overheating and scalding our legs. The shower cubicle and tiling are in poor condition and need replacing - a good clean would be a start. Despite all that we really enjoyed our stay - it's a great place but needs some attention.
