If payment is not received in full on time, we can treat your booking as cancelled by you for a non-refundable reason.   15. Perth does make an excellent touring base. There are such diverse opportunities available within a short distance from upland walking, exploring and fishing rivers, lochs, historic centres and some of the world’s best golf venues. Cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are only an hour away, which brings some great sporting opportunities and during August the Edinburgh Festival is a must! Aug 2007.

Not easy to get out of the drive onto fairly busy road, with a bend just before the exit, best to get someone to be on foot as lookout. Very good for walkers and easy access to the Loch if you are a water enthusiast. Good for fishing as well. May 2012.

  6. It was superbly situated overlooking a shallow but fast-flowing river and the cottage was very comfortable. It was also splendidly equipped with every necessary kitchen item. The showers were new and worked well. We met the owners who came immediately to attend to a minor electrical problem and they were both charming and helpful. The property is on the quiet side of Loch Lomond and the road past it leads to a small marina and goes no further - hence not much traffic. And we never even saw a midge! July 2011.
  7. Marr cottage is a very nice property. We enjoyed the location greatly. It comfortably fit 2 couples and 2 young children. The setting of the cottage alongside a small river (with a nice deck overlooking it) was lovely (we even spotted an otter and a martin during our stay). The cottage is furnished comfortably and is impeccably kept. July 2011.

  14. The cottage was lovely. It was decorated neutrally,was attractive and very comfortable. It was spacious, with more than enough room for 6 adults and a dog! Marr Cottage was very well equipped including everything you could need in the kitchen and there was also a docking station for ipods and sky tv. Just what we needed for a lazy evening after a long walk up the Cobbler! It was wonderful to open the curtains in the morning and to see the stream/river flowing just behind the cottage. Sadly it wasn’t BBQ weather while we were there but it would have been lovely to sit on the terrace, eating al fresco overlooking the river. Maybe next time. We would certainly stay at Marr Cottage again. Sept 2010.

  1. The cottage and facilities were absolutely excellent. The owners had thought of absolutely everything you could possibly want and the welcome basket and eggs, milk and smoked salmon were such a lovely thought. Kate and David are a lovely couple and very helpful, we couldn’t have wished for more except better weather but that was understandable for the time of year. We were quite happy to spend a lot of time in the cottage, it was so cosy with the logs and coal burning. Dec 2012.

  1. In mid April we found the property cold and the open fire was an essential. When we arrived late on Friday afternoon we found that there was no shower curtain. We reported this and it was soon attended to. We even got a visit the following morning to make sure it had been attended to-excellent attention! April 2012.

  2. Our favourite cottage to date. Made exceptionally welcome by owners and also the dogs and very friendly chickens! Beautifully appointed cottage, with good quality furnishings and fittings. Thoughtful extras included such as milk and fresh eggs and a plentiful supply of logs for the woodburning stove. Ideal location, handy for getting out and about in the area, but away from the centre for blissful peace and quiet. We never return to the same place twice but we will definitely return to Shepherds Rest. Sept 2012.

  1. This property is great; the owners are very hospitable, even leaving a bowl of eggs on the doorstep one morning. The location is fantastic. Really quiet and unspoilt. Great views and away from it all. The Campsie Fells are ideal for a holiday; mountains and lochs; reminiscent of the English Lakes but with no tourists. Only half an hour from Glasgow, Sterling, Loch Lomond and Callander. Around an hour to Edinburgh Zoo to see Sunshine and Sweetie (Giant Pandas). The next village (Fintry) has a creamerie that produces amazing chocolate and hazelnut ice cream. The property is a long way down an unpaved farm track that is a little rough but no problem if you take your time and this makes for an idyllic location (no road noise at all!) July 2012.

  1. Lovely cottage in a wonderful location, more suited to exploring on foot but can be done by car (6 miles through beautiful Menlock pass to reach the main road) Ideal for a holiday with plenty of R & R, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. April 2012.
  2. If you like the outdoors cycling / walking this is the most fantastic place to stay. We have stayed in many cottages but none have been better than this. April 2012.
  3. The location is fabulous. Very comfortable and the cottage had everything we needed, the only criticism would be that it didn’t have a shower. We would definitely stay here again. March 2012.
  4. A delightful cottage tucked away in the rolling hills of southern Scotland. A wonderful place to relax, unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. Village pub very friendly and the beer is good too! Oct 2011.
  5. A beautifully well kept cottage, with a lot of character. Clean and tidy inside, and presented with tea, milk and biscuits on arrival. The fire was all set up, ready to light, and the bedrooms were clean and tidy, with towels laid out on the bed in a lovely presentable way. Jan 2011.

  7. Very small but I do think people must remember that they are staying in a very old miners cottage high up in the mountains. The scenery is beautiful especially with the sheep all around. The atmosphere is wonderful, you can just image the miners coming out of the mine in the valley. Wanlockhead has only 153 residents. The mine trip is well worth a visit. The Churchyard is also very interesting, most of the miners are buried there, especially one called Mr. Taylor who died at the age of 137 years. In the next village (Leadhills) you can go to the bear shop, and the lady there makes teddy bears and names them after the miners. All in all wonderful. July 2010.

  1. Excellent location, few views direct from the cottage though (but plenty within 100 yards). June 2012.
  2. A cosy, clean bungalow in a beautiful location. Ideally situated for exploring both the North and South of the island and for walks from the front door. Aug 2011.
  3. Lovely comfortable cottage in beautiful location. Beach very nearby, children loved it! (4 year old and 1 year old) Owner could not have made us feel more welcome. Wine on arrival and sweets for the children in the car as we left, she was just lovely. Beds were comfy with lovely bed linen and what looked like a brand new travel cot. Cooked all meals for the week in the cottage, all pots pans etc you could ever need. Will definitely be booking again! April 2011.
  4. A lovely stay in stunning surroundings. A wonderful cottage, good garden just a shame about the weather for most of the stay! Plenty of room for two but would also suit a young family. Very friendly caretaker. A most enjoyable stay. Oct 2009.
  5. A lovely quaint cottage (very clean and contains everything you need) in a beautiful quiet location. The owners of the nearby cottage were extremely helpful and hospitable (they are related to the cottage owner and oversaw the running of the cottage and dealt with any enquiries). I nearly ran out of petrol on my arrival as I had stupidly misjudged the availability of petrol pumps in the area (the only pump was 4 miles away from the cottage and was closed when I got there). When I told the owner of the nearby cottage about my predicament, he even went to the trouble of picking up a can of petrol for me from the nearby village and left it outside the front door for me the next morning. He also fixed my broken windscreen wiper for me. His wife was also extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. I would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful, good value, well-maintained cottage with spectacular views- a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful island of Skye. Aug 2009.
