  1. The property was fantastic, it has everything you need for a home from home. The pictures of the property does not do it justice. The garden is amazing and very private. I would highly recommend this property. Shame the weather wasnt too good. June 2012.
  2. The best part of the property was the garden area which was huge and given the right weather would be a good selling point for the property. Good for WW1 Battlefields and plenty of facilities with shops in the village and supermarkets in Albert especiallly and Bapaume. Sept 2011.
  3. This is an excellent Gite for those wishing to tour the Battle of the Somme. There is also the high speed train into Paris from Albert and it is a 90 minute journey into Ypres. A lovely village where all the locals are very welcoming. The accommodation is excellent for families with its enclosed garden, plenty of space in the Gite and the owners have kindly provided games and toys for your use. Aug 2011.
  4. This is a real find, the photos don’t do the gite any justice. Visits to the Somme on your doorstep, only an hour and a half to Paris and Disneyland. The place was perfect for us. Aug 2011.

  7. The house is spacious and very comfortable, the garden is exquisite. The location of Mailly Maillet is ideal for anyone wanting to explore the WW1 sites and is also ideally located mid-way between Amiens and Arras. We could recommend this property. June 2011.
  8. Perfectly located for WW1 battlefield sites - a lovely village with a boulangerie within 100m! Owners tried hard to help in every way and were pleasant. No uk tv channels so need to bring dvds etc. Great garden. June 2011.

  10. We have visited this gite three times in 13 months - and we wouldn’t consider any other property when visiting this part of the Somme. Two of the three lovely gardens are wholly secure and dog-proof; once the massive wooden gates are fastened, you’re in another world. The village has a baker, butcher, chemist, cafe, bar and post office. It’s a few minutes drive along quiet roads from almost all the sites and memorials, yet Mailly-Maillet is a quiet, even rural village. It’s the perfect gite for dog-owners interested in the Great War, but it’s also pretty good for anyone wanting typically French accommodation in a beautiful part of France with plenty of places to visit and things to do. It’s a home from home and we love it. May 2011.

  15. The perfect base for exploring the Somme, although in the end we rarely left the property because it was so comfortable. We spent most of the week reading, birdwatching in the garden and just enjoying the property. The dwelling is spacious and nicely furnished (proper furniture, not holiday pieces) and delightfully French in its sanitation. Although on the road, traffic (mainly farm tractors) was very light. Secure off-street parking behind the huge wooden gates, and 3 large garden areas, 2 were enclosed - excellent for our dog. The village had a baker, butcher, bar and chemist ... as well as a vet almost directly opposite. A short drive to Albert yielded all the usual shops of a small French town, as well as an interesting museum. Even shorter drives got one to several WWI sites. The small Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery in the village was kept beautifully. Don’t forget to bring waterproof footwear; the rain in June made some of the footpaths rather sticky.   18. If anything the description on your website under sold the property. There was no mention that the very large garden was walled and totally enclosed. Also we got sole use of not only that very large garden but also access to an equally large paddock behind making it ideal for people, such as us, who took a dog along. There were lots of extra’s e.g. jigsaws and masses of toys for young families who may not be as fortunate to have the wether we did and likewise books and videos (many in English). There was no mention that the village had its own bakery, delicatessan and bar in very easy walking distance. It was fantastic. June 2009.

  1. Lovely to have your own pool, WiFi only available at the back of the lounge for a fee of 20 euros for the 2 weeks. Motorway about 150 yards away but not too intrusive, Layrac very quiet but supermarket quite well stocked, Lidls and Geant in outskirts of Agen ( about 10 mins drive ) very good. Overall a good place for a restful holiday. July 2012.
  2. Much better than we thought by the pictures given.Lots of space and comfort would advise everyone to stay here. If you like pillows take your own as we always do the French seem to like bolsters. June 2012.
  3. Lovely villa with the best and cleanest pool I have seen during all our holidays in France. The villa is located quite near to the motorway which is great for traveling about but not so good if you want complete peace and quiet. The owners are very nice and whilst they live next door we never saw them except when we needed something. Good location for touring this area and Agen is a nice place, large enough to get everything you need. Sept 2011.
  4. The property was very well equipped and the rooms comfortable. The pool is a great asset and we spent most of the day in or around it. It was child friendly but we did have to move a few delicate ornaments out of the reach of little fingers! The electrics and plumbing were a bit dodgy but nothing to put me off booking again for next year. I’ll take a small tool kit with me next time. The owners were friendly and let us keep ourselves to ourselves, which is what we wanted. The only downside for me was not being able to fish in the adjacent lake. It would be great if the owners could make that a possibility. This was the best gite we have stayed in and will definitely return, more than likely next year.   1. This was a very cosy, well euipped gite with a lovely enclosed rear garden. The walks locally were really pleasant and nearby Chatelier, which was only about one km away, was a lovely early morning or late evening walk to do. The chateau with its portcullis and drawbridge was a real delight. The proprietors of the gite were a charming family and left welcome gifts which were appreciated. Nearby were numerous places to visit including wine tasting at Cave de Angeluiomme at Chinon and Azay le Ferron where the chateau guided visit and gardens are well worth the fee. Altogether it is a great place for a holiday. May 2012.

  1. A lovely secluded property and the owners speak excellent English and are very helpful. The kitchen though, is very basic. The location is very good on the edge of the Compiegne forest with very good walks and cycle trails. Bikes can be hired from Carrefour Royale on Sundays. There is also several historical sites and chateaus in the area. March 2012.

  1. ’The Pink House’ was very attractive and set in its own private garden with views down across the valley. The caretaker, who lived opposite, could not have been more helpful and the whole property was clean and very well presented. A general store was only a minute or so away and there was a post office within easy walking distance, plus a local Sunday market. July 2010.

  2. Situated on a large isolated arable farm. Quiet, but close enough to a small town to get food, bread, fuel etc. Very good for a quiet relaxed holiday or as a base for exploring the area. March 2012.
  3. Excellent value for money accommodation. The owners made us feel very welcome, and the gite was in a good location to tour around the Somme and Champagne region, we also went to Ypres in Belgium only two hours away. It was good to pay for the bedding provided in advance and the beds were made up ready on our arrival, although you might want to take some extra pillows as those provided were quite small. The location is very quiet even though it is on a working farm and we stayed there during the potato harvest and it did not interrupt the peace of our holiday. Aug 2011.

  1. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. Set in a really lovely small town in a beautiful area. No problem with the lack of TV except we had to text home for the weather forecast as we chose a bad week weather wise. Don’t miss the outdoor dancing on a Sunday afternoon down by the river (older visitors), and make sure you try the food at L’Oceane and Restaurant de la Place - Chez Fanny. Friendly welcome and great food. June 2012.

  3. The location was excellent, quiet with fabulous views from the bedrooms and yet only a short walk to the village centre. The cottage is showing a little wear and tear but the new kitchen and bathroom were great. The patio is a suntrap and neighbours are friendly if you know a few words of French. Sept 2011.

  1. Absolutely loved our stay here. Went with a one year old and the place was so child friendly it even had a stair gate we could attach which gave us peace of mind.
