Guests can enjoy farmhouse breakfasts in the conservatory at Laskill Grange, while across the drive at Laskill Country House, the owners’ daughter offers home cooked evening meals or ready prepared frozen meals to enjoy in the comfort of your holiday cottage. Bridge Cottage and The Coach House have an interconnecting door and may be booked together to sleep 6. Visitors can wander the 70 acres of beautifully tended grounds or relax in the shared terrace garden with its small lake and river frontage. Long distance footpaths along this area’s Heritage Coastline, and the Cleveland Way, offer perfect terrain for walkers and cyclists. The Ryedale Folk Museum at popular Hutton-Le-Hole, and the ruins of Rosedale Abbey are both worth a visit. For a day out, the North York Moors Railway runs steam train journeys between Grosmont and Pickering. My partner and I were looking forward to a cosy romantic weekend away and what we received was in both of our minds very poor from the beginning. when I booked the cottage it was advertised as having a log burner, it didn't! it was also advertised that the hot tub was shared between 2 cottages, it wasn't! Upon arrival we were told that the cottage we had booked wasn't available because the paint wasn't quite dry, although I had phoned a week in advance and was told that it would be ready for us and that bringing my own wood for the log burner was fine. Then I was ushered into the cottage and given a very brief chat on where things were. while we looked around the rooms in the cottage my partner and I were quite disgusted with the amount of cobwebs everywhere. Some of the light fittings didn't have light bulbs that were operational and the electric fire wasn't working properly. The fridge had not been cleaned properly which was the last thing my partner wanted to do upon arrival. We were so upset for a number of reasons we thought we might go out on our 1st night but couldn't find any taxi numbers in the welcome book. On the Sunday morning we were trying to relax when at about 10:30 a.m we were subject to hammering and banging noises coming from the cottage next door! which should have been ours! Overall we were very disappointed by the whole ordeal and promptly left a day before we were due to depart. we would both appreciate if you could pass this information on to the owners of Laskill farm in the hope that they improve their standards and others would enjoy their time there.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. The wood-burners are not advertised anywhere, they are completely new and have not yet been mentioned in any advertising, also again the hot tub is not stated anywhere it is shared between 2 cottages, this is not the case and it is made very clear in the website description it is a shared hot tub for all the cottages to use. Sadly we ended up replacing the bathroom floor in The Smithy as the radiator had leaked and the floor beneath was a floating floor which was saturated, unforeseen, but had to be dealt with, hence the cottage took longer to finish. The hammering and banging mentioned was one screw to put up the new mirror. The Guest Booklet is brand new and lists several taxi companies, all working in the area so I’m sorry that they missed it, it is bang up to date and in my opinion very comprehensive. The cottage we upgraded the couple to, was a mirror image of the one they had booked, only slightly bigger, the electric fire works perfectly well. As for the fridge being dirty and cobwebs everywhere, I just wish they had mentioned it at the time and we could have resolved the matter there and then, I cleaned the fridge myself and I know it was clean, as for cobwebs they were staying in a converted barn and so new cobwebs appear very quickly. I am very sorry they did not enjoy their time at Laskill, I recall speaking to the chap concerned and did mention we were installing a wood-burner so I appreciate the couple would be disappointed.
