Close by is Dartmoor, with its ponies, heather clad tors, quaint little villages, with shops, pubs, and tea rooms where a Devon cream tea is a must. About 8 miles away is the medieval town of Totnes, where the spirit of the past is re-enacted weekly in the form of an Elizabethan market during the summer months. Boat trips to Dartmouth from the Quay make a splendid day out. Exeter is 15 miles, with its magnificent cathedral and shopping centre, or visit the quay and take a boat trip to one of the many pubs waiting to be discovered. Dawlish Warren with its nature reserve which is well known for attracting rare birds on their annual migration. There are many NT properties within the area that are well worth a visit. Maidencombe beach is dog friendly all year round. Shops 11/2 miles, pub 200 yards.
