Accommodation description

Commanding spectacular views over Cardigan Bay, these three holiday properties enjoy an elevated position nestled beside a mountain stream, accessed by a steep shared drive. Woodland Roost (ref WN72) is a detached hideaway located within a woodland garden and Cedar Rest (ref WN82) and Coastal Retreat (ref 28519) are delightful wings of the owners’ 16th-century hillside farmhouse. They all overlook the owners’ field, and are only a mile away from the town of Barmouth, with its choice of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. A steep walk across the road takes you to the promenade and a beautiful sandy beach. Close by are all the amenities of the Snowdonia National Park, Harlech with its castle and golf course, Portmeirion, and steam trains run from Porthmadog. They are secluded but not isolated, with horse riding, fishing and mountain bike centres within an easy drive. Shops, pubs and restaurants 1 mile.

The bedside does not meet international standards: 135 cm x 190 cm with bedhead and bed base. For a tall person 6' 3" this is definitely a killer argument. On top of this, it was also too low. In the kitchen – especially in the oven and on the stovetop – was a lot of grease that we had to clean first before we could start cooking. The cottage smelt mouldy and there were no towel rack/rail in the bathroom.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. When we spoke briefly on the Sunday, had there been an issue with the cleanliness of the property, especially the cooker, I would have apologised and re steam cleaned as none of this was brought to my attention. In regard to the double bed it is clearly advertised and is of standard size. There is new installed heated towel rail, when the central heating is on ,replacing the small wooden rail. The property has recently been refurbished and decorated ,with a new glass balustrade and paving, the weather was particular wet and damp, if the property was mouldy I should have been informed so I could address the situation. I appreciate constructive comments and hopefully this guest will visit the beauty of north wales when the weather is not as stormy. Winter storms in summer are rare but as guests have said, they do result in beautiful water falls. Following a request for a full refund the property has been inspected by Cottages.com and has retained its 4 star rating.

Instructions on finding the cottage could have been a lot better, furniture and particularly the bed which for two seniors was far too low.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. The instructions for finding the property have been reviewed. The bed is a contemporary, real leather sleigh bed with a memory foam mattress and is as shown on the photos. I am sorry if you found it too low but I am sure you appreciate we can’t change a bed to suit all guests needs. Your feedback is appreciated.
